How do you know when a book series is really good? When you power through the entire series within the blink of an eye. The Selection Series by Keira Cass I’m giving a 5/5, add this series to your must-read list! I can’t exactly say what one plot fits in just one book because the plot, much like a roller-coaster, climbs and dives, building throughout the series. I admit after reading this series, I had a book hang over and almost needed to read it again because for me it was that good. (I made myself move on to another series)

In the first three books, The Selection, The Elite and The One, you dive into the life of a girl named America. People are divided by status, sectioned off and numbered by class. Rebel groups fight each other and the kingdom, while royalty abuses power to keep control. Prince Maxon is to host 35 lucky ladies, and America hopes to be chosen over the other 34 selectors to be his queen. It reminds me of a more royal version of The Hunger Games mixed in with the show The Bachelor. It’s a simple easy flowing read, but leaves a burning glow of inspiration in your heart to be a good person no matter what tries to bog you down.

In the last two books, The Heir and The Crown, we see from Maxon’s daughter Eadlyn’s perspective. This means this time we get to view the selection from the opposite side than the first three books. Again, 35 selected men to be hosted by a royal and only one will walk away. The twist in this one though is wonderful, so read carefully and see if you can pick the right suitor! The fantastic writing style you end up loving a few of the selectors and understand how hard it must feel to pick one to be a consort, which is a unique perspective. I think every young woman, scratch that EVERY female (even males too) can relate to Eadlyn as she fights to feel comfortable in her own skin. It takes her time to feel comfortable and stop numbing herself in fear of what people will say, which is unfortunately what so many of us do: worry over what others will think or say about us then giving up our own true happiness. These books leave you starting to realize your own self-worth as the character realizes hers. It takes a special talent to write a powerfully moving story with underlining truth AND make it so entertaining that you’re hungry to read more!
